The College Business Management Institute (CBMI) offers an intensive course of study in business and financial management for administrators of colleges and universities. Over 600 business officers and administrators, representing hundreds of colleges and universities of every size and description, attend each year. CBMI is designed to provide participants with an overview of current issues and procedures applicable to institutions of higher education large and small, public and private. Individuals participate in up to 32 hours of instruction each summer for three years to earn a certificate of completion. Ranging from entry level to advance, approximately 60 courses are taught by distinguished faculty who are practicing administrators and leaders in their fields.
There is no prerequisite to attend CBMI.
CBMI is designed to give participants the opportunity to:
- Discuss the latest issues and topics in higher education.
- Learn how other institutions deal with administrative problems.
- Develop professional relationships with colleagues at other institutions.
- Study administrative issues specific to higher education.
- Prepare for a promotion.
- Gain a broader perspective of higher education business administration.
To provide this broad perspective, each course you take may not be specifically related to your field.
Who Should Attend?
Administrators and personnel in higher education who have interest or responsibilities in any of the following areas:
- Academic Departments
- Accounting or Finance
- Auxiliary Services
- Budget or Planning
- Institutional Management
- Physical Plant
- Safety and Security
- Student Personnel
CBMI faculty includes presidents, vice presidents or vice chancellors and other key faculty and administrators of prominent colleges and universities across the nation. Corporate executives also make up the CBMI faculty. The distinguished instructors are practicing administrators and leaders in their fields. They are actively involved with professional associations such as SACUBO, NACUBO, NASPA, APPA, CUPA, NACUA, NACAS, ACUHO and URMIA. The faculty receives feedback through participant evaluations which enable them to improve their instruction each year.
CBMI is an excellent opportunity to earn continuing professional credits. Earn CPE credits as you attend courses taught by distinguished faculty who are practicing administrators and leaders in their fields, and network with colleagues from colleges and universities of every size and description. Participants can earn up to 32 hours of CPE each summer for three years as they work to earn a certificate of completion.
The Southern Association of College and University Business Officers (SACUBO) is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit.
